How to choose salon management software in South Africa
Compare real salon tasks, full staff pricing, local payment arrangements, messaging limits and team access before choosing software.
Polissh · Getting started

Compare a normal working day
Write down five tasks your salon does every day: a phone booking, an online booking, a last-minute move, checkout and checking takings. Try those tasks in each product rather than judging only its feature list.
If you run a barbershop, try adding a walk-in alongside scheduled cuts. If you run a nail studio, compare long and short services. For a spa, test therapist and room arrangements. Do not assume a generic calendar solves your specific scheduling needs.
Work out the full price
Check what counts as a staff member, whether the owner is included, any cap, taxes and extra charges. Ask whether online bookings, messaging or payment processing have separate costs. Use current published prices rather than an old comparison article.
Polissh's current staff calculation is shown on its pricing page. Client PayFast deposits use the salon's merchant account and are separate from the Polissh subscription. Recurring Polissh subscription checkout is not yet connected; do not infer a working billing arrangement from a price calculator.
Check payments and messages in practice
Find out where customer payments settle, how fees are charged and how you can identify verified receipts. A link sent to a client should not be confused with money received.
Ask whether WhatsApp reminders are prepared for manual sending or delivered automatically through a connected business number. Check connection requirements, consent and costs with the provider. Test your own setup before promising clients a service.
Try staff access and client records
Give a test team member the role they would have in your salon. Check that they can see what they need without seeing the entire salon's takings. Use individual sign-ins rather than one shared password.
Review what client data you record and who needs access to it. Software alone does not prove POPIA compliance. Read the official Act and get advice on your salon's responsibilities where needed.
Use the trial to make a decision
Keep a short checklist of tasks that worked, tasks that needed help and anything the provider says is still rolling out. Choose based on the work you can complete today, not on an untested future feature or a promise about business growth.
