How to reduce salon no-shows without making booking difficult
A practical salon checklist: clear appointment details, sensible deposit terms, useful reminders and a way for clients to tell you plans have changed.

Start with clear booking details
A client needs to know what they booked, where to go and when to arrive. Use service names they recognise, give the full appointment date and time, and explain anything they must do before the visit. If the price depends on a consultation, say so before they book.
Check the phone number at booking and make it easy to contact the salon. A client who cannot attend is more useful to you when they can tell you early enough to offer the time to someone else.
Choose a deposit policy you can explain
Consider the cost of holding a long appointment: the staff time, preparation and whether you can realistically refill it at short notice. A deposit may be useful for that booking, but it cannot guarantee attendance.
Tell the client the amount, deadline and cancellation or refund terms before payment. For example, a R1,200 colour appointment with a R360 deposit leaves R840 due. This is an illustration, not a recommended percentage for every salon. Review the terms for your business and seek advice where needed.
Send a useful reminder, not an offer
Keep the reminder focused on the appointment. Include your salon name, date, time and a way to request a change. Check that the time is still correct if someone rescheduled. Do not count an opened WhatsApp message as sent or delivered.
In Polissh, a prepared WhatsApp message opens for you to send when automatic sending is not connected. Build a manual reminder check into your day until your own business number is connected and tested.
Review what happened each week
Keep cancellations separate from clients who simply did not arrive. Look for practical patterns: a particular booking source, a service whose duration is unclear, or messages going to an old phone number. Change one part of your routine and review the next few weeks rather than assuming every missed visit has the same cause.
